The Senate Committee on INEC has commenced the screening of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu following the letter written by President Muhammadu Buhari asking them to hasten the nomination process of Yakubu as Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC)
The screening exercise is ongoing at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja at the time of filing this report.
Mahmoud who was present at the screening exercise urged the National Assembly to pass the Amended Electoral acts Bill before the first quarter of 2021.
The former INEC boss told the lawmakers that the commission after carefully examining the electoral act has submitted several areas that need an amendment to the National Assembly.
Yakubu said INEC would continue to deepen the use of technology for elections and explore other ways in which the electoral process could benefit from technology.
He also stated that it’s very vital for everything about the electoral framework to be done before the next General election as it will enhance the electoral system.
