THE UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR ALUMNI UYO CHAPTER HELD A GENERAL MEETING, ISSUED A COMMUNIQUE- BY DIVINE SAM

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE GENERAL MEETING OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR ALUMNI UYO CHAPTER HELD AT EEMJMS HOTEL & SUITE, UYO ON SUNDAY 23rd FEBRUARY,2020 by 3pm.
DATE: 24th February 2020
Introduction.
The University of Calabar Alumni Association Uyo chapter at its congress held at The EEMJM Hotel & Suite, Uyo on Sunday 23rd of February, 2020 considered several issues of urgent national importance including, but not limited to: the ineffective operation of the two men Executive appointed at an out of court reconciliation meeting at Abuja held eight months ago. The two-man Executive since their appointment paraded themselves as Executives of Unical Alumni without tangible activities of Alumni.
The leadership has been crippled and malfunctioning with misguided and disparaging utterances against the unanimous decision of the malabites and certain misconducts against its members in order to intimidate and cause fear; as a result of their power tussle.
Therefore, the Alumni has vehemently sought for an urgent need to set up an interim Committee while the two-man Executive is collapsed.
The meeting carefully considered the said issues and resolved as follows:
STATE OF THE CHAPTER
ATTEMPTS TO INTIMIDATE OR INFUSE FEAR INTO MEMBERS.
Resolutions:
The Malabites noted with concern the worrisome trends of disparaging by the unproductive and unprogressive leadership of the Unical Alumni in Uyo chapter and other disgruntled persons who instead of showcasing performance and credibility of their duties as Executives turned to malign, intimidate and infuse members of the union with fears.
THE RESOLUTION HAMPERS ON THE FOLLOWING;
1. The two-man committee, Mr Imoh Raphael and Dr Ubong George is hereby unanimously dissolved by the alumni in Uyo.
Following their poor capabilities, lack of adequate and appropriate conduct towards it members for over a year now, interested members have on several occasions pleaded with the duo to convene a congress for members’ contributions but all efforts have proved abortive.
2. That the two men have been asked to call a Congress at various times but have bluntly refused to choose to remain silent until they were forced by Members to hold a Unity Walk last December. All attempts to have the duo convene a meeting have proved futile.
3. Malabites and Malabresses have decided to relieve the two-man Executive of their powers to operate and parade themselves as the authentic Executives of the Unical Alumni in Uyo chapter.
4. A five-man Interim committee has been inaugurated and is headed by Dr Abraham Anlak as Chairman, Amb. Kelvin Umoh- Secretary, Comr Ekemini Amadu, Mrs Unyime Nathan and Comr Udeme Umoh to pilot the affairs of the Alumni for three months.
This is to enable the committee to set up an electoral body that shall midwife a duly recognized and constituted Executive.
5. The alumni meeting had 64 persons in attendance who were satisfied with the new development and unanimously endorsed the resolution. They promised to work with the newly set up committee to enhance harmony that will move the alumni in a positive direction, speedy growth and progress.
6. Motions to dissolve the two-man committee headed by Mr Imoh Williams was ably moved by Mr Kingsley Elijah and seconded by Mr Ubong Ekaette.
7. The meeting lasted for two hours after other deliberations and suggestions were put on the table to chart the way forward.
8. Hence Dr Abraham Anlak emerges Chairman, Unical Alumni, Uyo Chapter and is to kickstart a process to strengthen the Alumni.
Signed
