Amnesty International has called on Madonna University, Elele, Rivers State, to reverse the expulsion and suspension of 15 nursing students over a viral TikTok video.
The university had expelled one 500-level nursing student identified as Mercy, and suspended 14 others for participating in the “Gen Z nurses” dance challenge recorded inside its teaching hospital.
The video, uploaded in August 2026 with the caption “No fall sick o, na Gen Z full hospital now,” showed students dancing in a hospital waiting area, staircase and corridor. A 15-second clip later garnered over 1.7 million views on X.

Amnesty International described the sanction as disproportionate, arguing that expulsion after five years of academic and clinical training destroys careers for a first-time offence where no patient was harmed or confidential information exposed.
The call aligns with appeals by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives (NUNSA), which urged the university to temper justice with mercy and replace the expulsion with corrective measures like probation, counselling and ethics training.
Madonna University says an official statement will be issued.
