Kogi Lawmaker Raises Alarm After Strange Disease Kills Over 50 In His Constituency

The sudden outbreak of a strange disease that has already claimed the lives of fifty people in Ette, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, calls for concern as the state’s house of assembly is calling on the State and Federal Government to come to their rescue.

According to Anthony Ujah, a member representing Olamaboro Constituency, who made this known while moving a motion of urgent public importance on the floor of the house in Lokoja.

Honourable Anthony Ujah noted that those affected were mostly in the reproductive age of twenty-five to forty years, saying the incident had caused untold hardship on the people of the community who were mostly farmers.

The lawmaker said the cause of the disease is still unknown while mentioning that it comes with symptoms such as red eyes, loss of appetite, headaches, inability to urinate or defecate, convulsion, and death.

He appealed to the State Ministry of Health to carry out testing of the strange disease in the community to ascertain the remote cause of the deaths.

Mr Ujah also requested for the provision of palliative to the people of Ette who could no longer go to the farm.

The Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole in his ruling directed the Health Ministry to partner with the Federal Ministry of Health to unravel the remote cause of the deaths.

Governor Yahaya Bello is yet to make comment publicly on this Alleged strange disease.
