Residents of Kwola Akpata Road in Ibadan, Oyo State, have raised serious concerns over the worsening condition of their road, accusing the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde of focusing development projects mainly on urban areas while neglecting rural communities.
The residents described the road as nearly impassable, especially during the rainy season, noting that both motorists and pedestrians now struggle daily to access the area due to deep potholes, erosion, and muddy surfaces.
Speaking with Newsieevents, a resident, Mr. Oluwatoyin Kabiru, lamented that the situation has negatively affected businesses, transportation, and economic activities within the community.
According to him, residents feel abandoned despite their continuous support for the government during elections.
“Whenever it rains, even walking on this road becomes a serious challenge. Our businesses are suffering, movement is difficult, and the entire community is being affected economically,” he said.
Kabiru further alleged that repeated appeals and letters sent to the Oyo State Government and the local government authorities regarding the condition of the road have yielded no positive response.
“During elections, politicians come here with promises and campaigns, but after the elections, we are abandoned. We have written several letters to both the state and local government authorities, yet nothing has been done,” he added.
The residents also acknowledged that the road serves as a pipeline corridor but insisted that there are modern engineering alternatives that can allow repairs or reconstruction without damaging the pipelines.
They therefore appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde and relevant government agencies to urgently intervene and rehabilitate the road before the situation worsens further.
The community warned that continued neglect of rural infrastructure could further hinder development and deepen hardship for residents living outside the major urban centres of the state.
