Chief Willie Obiano, the Anambra State Governor will be holding the 2020 Educational Icons Awards. The award ceremony will be done in partnership with Micnet Concept international and the personalities to be awarded are about 100.
Mike Nebo, the Managing Director and CEO of micnet said in a Press Conference that personalities who will be awarded are those that have contributed to the development and advancement of education in the state.
He further said that the event will be tagged, “Education Icons Awards Nigeria with His Excellency Willie Obiano” and it has been held in Enugu and Lagos State previously.
He said the award will be in different categories: philanthropy section, most friendly organisation supporting education, outstanding tertiary institution in the state, best school based on external examination performance.
Nebo further revealed that there will be grassroots involvement to select eminent persons who have been pillars and supporters of educational development. He also assured that the verification and selection process will be done based on facts, nomination, and voting.
The award is designed to attract more investors in the educational sector of the state and the award by 2021 will reach the Northern part of the state, he said.
He said there will be competitions which will help in harnessing talents as there will be singing, drawing, and writing competitions for primary and secondary school students in which prizes worth up to #3 million will be given to those who emerged best in their sections.
Special Assistant to Governor Obiano on Broadcast media, Mrs. Ify Aronu Okafor described the award as a timely one and a way of showing immense gratitude to all those who have contributed to the development of education in the State. She assured that the awards will be chosen based on past records especially in the areas regarding infrastructural provisions, scholarship awards to students and others.
